Kuan Kung (General Kuan) , Master of Knowledge, Guardian of Business and Protector of the Realm
Heavy Brass, incredible detail. A must have for for your office...General Kuan Kung in elegant brass, 10" x 7". Over 2000 years ago as a general Kuan Gung led many warriors into victorious battles. He is seen as a protector and worshiped all over china to watch over people, homes and money. Heavy brass, astonishingly beautiful detail. Ideal for giving power and strength to your office. Item #ST_SL-KGUNG.
Picture.

A protector of the people, Kwan Kung became very popular with the Imperial military, and was declared 'Warrior Prince' by one Chinese emperor, later to be called 'Faithful and Loyal Great Deity, Supporter of Heaven, Protector of the Realm'. Kwan Gung also developed quite a following among the common people, who see him as a protector and guardian. In old China thousands of temples large and small were dedicated to him. A statue of him is frequently found in front of businesses as well as temples. He is always depicted as looking stern, and wearing the Chinese clothing of a dynastic military officer. 'In southern Shanzi, on the outskirts of Yur' Cheng which was once a small city rich in history, a great temple was built during the Sung Dynasty in honor of Kuan Kung, one of the heroes of the Era of the Three Kingdoms. For the Chinese he is a symbol of trust and faithfulness. Kuan Kung - always depicted with a red face and a long black beard - is also a recurrent figure among the protagonists of classic Chinese Opera. For centuries people have paid homage to him at this temple, making it the center of great veneration. In 1957 the temple was still in pristine condition, and a local artist had just finished working on a series of large frescoes narrating the life and acts of this popular hero. Here, as everywhere [in China] the Cultural Revolution arrived. However, when in 1966 the Maoist rebels arrived at the temple to destroy it, they found themselves locked out. Zhang Jie-xiang, the woman who was responsible for the entire complex of buildings, and her six assistants bolted the gates and barricaded themselves inside. The siege lasted three months. "You have the keys, but we have the power!" screamed the Maoists from outside. Ms Zhang, however, had the local population on her side. At night, the locals succeeded in throwing packages of food to the besieged caretakers on the other side of the high walls. Finally the Red Guards gave up their vain struggle to get their way and left. In 1969, the Maoist county authorities ordered that the temple be turned into a school. But Ms. Zhang gave up only one courtyard to the project and then, in order to avoid that the school be used as an excuse to enter into the rest of the temple complex, she had a high wall built all around it. Today, Kuan Kung's Temple is the only site in the province that is perfectly preserved and the only one in which there is still that aura of mystery and charm that was once found throughout China. The numerous pavilions are still intact, the altars all have their candelabra, their censers, their bronze vessels and their statues. Kuan Kung's legendary weapons may still be found in the ancient armory, and in the main pavilion in a darkened corner, he is still there, the legendary Kuan Kung.' - from Tiziano Terzani The Forbidden Gate (La Porta Proibita) 1984 Longanesi, Milano

Wu Lu Gourd, or Calabash
This genuine Wu Lu gourd has a red tassel, red hanging cord, and, for some feng shui purposes, an all- important removable stopper. It is very well-made from a real gourd, and is beautifully painted with flowers and the goddess Kuan Yin, who helps us in every way. Height 4-5". Item #LK-GRD.
Picture.

Master Joseph Yu tells us:"One popular Feng Shui item used by Feng Shui masters is the calabash. The ancient sage Fu Xi watched the images in Heaven and the laws on Earth, examined the markings on birds and beasts, studied the suitability of the soil. He related his body parts that are closest at hand and various objects that are far reaching and classified them into eight categories each being known as a trigram. This is to display the wonder of creation and compare the characteristics of various things. There are eight trigrams and each represents real and abstract things. One of the trigrams is Dui. One of the many representations of Dui is detaching a fruit that hangs on vines. Dui is also soft metal. The body part that is represented by Dui is the mouth. Moreover, the Earlier Heaven Dui is the Later Heaven Xun. One such object that represents the Dui trigram is the dried calabash with an open mouth. The dried fruit has a golden yellow color that represents metal. What is the use of the Dui trigram then? We know that sickness energy is represented by Star #2 or the Kun trigram. Changing the first and second lines of a trigram will yield the star Ju Men or Tian Yi (Heavenly Doctor). Now changing the first and second lines of the Kun trigram gives us exactly the Dui trigram. This is why the calabash is used to cure sickness. This not a coincidence that medical doctors in the old days in China used the calabash as a container of medicine. The ancient sage classified objects according to the eight trigrams. Feng Shui masters in the past analyzed qi using the transformation of the trigrams. Cures are also based on the relationship between the trigrams. It is not just the five elements!" -Master Joseph Yu

Singing Bowl Set with Book
These singing bowls are around 75 years old and very special. The singing bowls are used to develop focus and attention in our practice and in our daily lives. Don't be fooled by replicas - our antique singing bowls are hand made, hand-selected and are made only by Tibetan artisans through special ancient techniques handed down from generation to generation. The bowls are made of 7 metals, one for each planet: Gold for the sun, silver for the moon, mercury for Mercury, Iron for Mars, Tin for Jupiter and Lead for Saturn. The harmonies of all the metals produce subtle distinctions creating a sensation of great space and profound peace. Each bowl comes with its own pillow made of woven Tibetan cloth to rest it on when not in use, though it needs to be held to be played. The kit also includes the wooden wand to make the bowl sing, and a book of instruction about this ancient technique for developing attentiveness. We test all the bowls for sound. It is hard to get bowls that are the same exact size, because they are handmade for SOUND, not for size, so sometimes a smaller bowl may be sent to you, but rest assured that the sound is fabulous. 4" - 6" diameter for the small, 6" - 8" for the large, and 12" inch diameter for the Huge.
