Large Shrine - 29" high - DISCONTINUEDReally beautiful!! Made of solid wood with lavishly embossed white metal with copper details, this shrine is big! Taller and wider than the one above, it MEASURES 9" DEEP BY 16" WIDE, BY 29" HIGH. It has 2 arched doors with windows in them which open to reveal the area where you put your statues and other shrine objects. Below the doors is a little shelf that pulls out in front for food/water offerings, and under that, there is a drawer to keep incense and other items in. The inside of the drawer, the back and the bottom of the shrine are all painted with protective cinnabar red. The top arrives upside down, with screws (in drawer) and screw holes so you can put the top on correctly and securely. It has hangers on either side so it can hang on the wall (which is quite common to do in South America, Asia and Europe) or it can be placed on a table. It can also be placed on the floor if you are using it for a shrine to the Kitchen Gods. Or, if you are not shrine-inclined, this is a great artifact for storing special objects. Goddess Tara is one of the oldest goddess who is still worshipped extensively in modern times. Tara originated as a Hindu goddess, the Mother Creator, representing the eternal life force that fuels all life. There are many embodiments of Tara, but the best known are the White Tara and the Green Tara. The peaceful, compassionate White Tara gently protects and brings long life and peace. In Sanskrit, the name Tara means Star. Adopted by Buddhism, she become the most widely revered deity in the Tibetan pantheon. In Buddhist tradition, Tara is actually much greater than a goddess -- she is a female Buddha, an enlightened one was has attained the highest wisdom, capability and compassion, one who can take human form and who remains in oneness with the every living thing. The oldest reference to the goddess Tara, perhaps, is found in an ancient saga of Finland thought to be 5 million years old. The saga speaks of a group known as Tar, the Women of Wisdom. |
