Feng Shui mirrors have a reflective property such as water. You can use them to direct the Chi around your home.
Mirrors are often called the “aspirin” of feng shui. They serve multiple purposes and can help resolve many challenging situations. Mirrors guide and direct chi (energy). They can help to speed it up, slow it down, or simply help it to flow along a path. They can also be used to balance a space by correcting irregularities. Mirrors help to offset negative influences, attract auspicious chi, and penetrate spaces that may be closed or blocked. They are also used to create clarity, reflect and expand images, and absorb energy. A little can go a long way though. Be careful not to overdo it.
From a practical perspective, you might hang a mirror to adjust or enhance a space, such as:
When hanging a decorative mirror to reflect people, make sure that the adults living or working in the space can see their entire head. Mirrors hung too low or too high can cause problems.
If you sit facing a wall, a mirror in front enables you to see from behind. The mirror also creates depth, expanding your vision and opportunities that come your way.
A classic cure for noisy or disturbing neighbors is to hang a small mirror facing the offending property. You enhance the mirror by placing your intentions into it using the Three Secrets Reinforcement, a beautiful blessing. If you are not familiar with the Three Secrets, contact a feng shui practitioner. Your intentions should always be positive, wishing the best for everyone. Negative intentions are likely to return to you multi-fold. Years ago I hung a small octagon-shaped mirror facing the property of nasty neighbor. I intended that our energies be separated and that we live in peace. Before long, our neighbor and his family stopped spending time at the house. The next year, the property went on the market and a wonderful family purchased it. They have been there ever since.
Various types of mirrors are used in feng shui. Regardless of the style you use, your mirror should always be clean and clear. Avoid foggy mirrors as well as those that are styled to look like windows with many panes. Foggy mirrors provide foggy vision and multiple panes obstruct the view and do not provide a smooth flow of energy.
A bagua mirror protects whatever is located behind it. When placed over a front door, it protects the house or building. Bagua mirrors can be plain or be inscribed with the eight trigrams. The trigrams have two arrangements: pre-heaven and late-heaven. The pre-heaven sequence is only meant to be placed outside. In this sequence the mirror will have three solid lines (Heaven) on top and three broken lines (Earth) on the bottom. Never place the pre-heaven sequence inside. It disrupts energy.
Bagua mirrors are very powerful. They encompass the eight trigrams, the five elements and the energy of yin and yang. When properly used, these combinations help to powerfully transcend circumstances and problems.
Convex mirrors are round mirrors that “pop out.” Convex mirrors are used to widen an area, broaden the vision of what is seen, and absorb a wide-range image. They have multiple applications in feng shui.
Concave mirrors should be used with caution. They turn images upside down. They are also used to flatten or soften energy. It is best to consult with a feng shui practitioner when using convex mirrors.
Sun/Moon mirrors are special purpose mirrors that contain 24 hours of direct moonlight and 24 hours of sunlight gathered over a 27 day period. They contain a balance of yin and yang energy. The sun side is used to build, strengthen, revitalize, nourish, and enhance energy. The moon side is used to cool emotions, slow things down, and bring focus and clarity. Many cures use a sun/moon mirror.
When purchasing mirrors, purchase the highest quality you can afford. Beveled edge, round or octagon shaped mirrors are beautiful and can be used for many cures. Also, if a mirror that is used for a cure cracks or breaks, replace it. Mirrors used for cures should also be in top working condition.
Mirrors have many uses in feng shui. If you have any doubt about proper use, consult a feng shui practitioner to help you select the most appropriate mirror and set the right intention.
